Alabama’s nickname is: “The Yellowhammer State” and its motto is “We dare defend our rights”. Alabama, with a total of 1,500 miles of inland waterways, has the most of any state.
The state of Alabama and the city of Montgomery continues to welcome new business to the state. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (commonly called HMMA) is an automobile complex and factory in Montgomery. HMMA has invested millions of dollars in Alabama.
HMMA was incorporated as a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of South Korea on April 12, 2002. Construction was completed in June 2004. The official start of production began in May 2005. The official grand opening ceremony was on May 20, 2005. By 2013, HMMA had over 3,000 employees.
HMMA has continued to grow in recent years. In November 2019, HMMA announced the Santa Cruz compact utility vehicle would join the Santa Fe SUV and the Sonata and Elantra sedans, starting in 2021.
